CEO PROFILE
James Chappell
James Chappell
Born in 1976 in North Carolina, USA.
After studying psychology and sociology at the University of North Carolina, he graduated in 1999 and moved to Japan. He began his career as a manager at an international body painting company partnered with Universal Studios Japan, contributing to USJ’s opening and working there for eight years. During this time, he managed company operations and later transitioned to providing communication training to Japanese business professionals facing challenges within international business teams. Simultaneously, he started a small business creating and selling original washi paper lamps, even setting up shops in places like Hankyu Department Store.
Through his work as a communication trainer, he realized that assertiveness is a crucial skill for Japanese business professionals aiming for success on an international stage.
After five years of trial and error, he developed a core training method to cultivate assertive skills, resulting in the BEMi (Body, Emotion, Mind, and Information) method. This method, focusing sequentially on the body, emotions, mind, and information and theory (with the latter tackled last), has proven effective in delivering tangible results in real business situations.
The BEMi method was designed to help Japanese business professionals become more influential and active members in global communication and decision-making processes.
By training individuals to focus on physical presence, emotional intelligence, cognitive processes, and information assimilation, the method ensures that their voices are not lost in international discussions. He is dedicated to supporting Japanese business people in achieving greater prominence and influence in the global business arena.
